The man has done it! For a third consecutive year Lionel Messi has won the World Player of the Year award.
True to his form, Messi dedicated primarily the award to his close friend and team mate Xavi.
I want to share this honour with my teammate, Xavi,” added Messi, who then addressed his clubmate in the audience at the FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala.
He deserves it, too. I want to share it with you, because you deserve it as much as me. It’s a pleasure to be here alongside him and to play with him.
Lionel Messi now joins the likes of Platini, Johan Cruyff and Marco van Basten as the only other 3 players to have won the same award.
So what will 2012 bring for the man they call the Messiah? Will his fantastic form be repeated?
